Hair is our crowning glory. The appearance of both men and women improves with a head full of healthy, shining, well-behaved hair. You automatically look younger if your hairstyle is youthful yet appropriate.

This is especially important to most women, but they often don't really know how to take care of their tresses. They either use too many products of dubious value or they think that just washing and drying and combing their hair is enough care to take.

Luckily, it's never too late to start paying attention to your hair. The most important thing is that you be gentle with you hair. Do a gentle massage of the head when you wash the hair to stimulate the scalp. This increases blood flow so the hair follicles can grow hair.

Rinse and then use a gentle conditioner. Rinse again. When you towel dry, do so gently and don't pull and tug on the hair. Allow the hair to air dry a little before you style. In terms of style, avoid having one hairstyle all the time, especially if it's one that pulls the hair back severely into clips or a pony tail.

Comb or brush gently. If you're going to do the standard "100 strokes" a night, which many styles don't require anymore, use a soft brush and move it from root to end easily.

Make sure your gels, sprays, conditioners, and shampoos are natural and don't contain harsh chemicals. Regardless of what the advertisers say, find something that feels good to you and stick with that, maybe alternating between one or two favored products.

With hair care, more is not always better. More can just gunk up your hair and impede growth and shine. When looking for gentle products, aloe vera, coconut milk, and rosemary are key words you might want to look for on the labels. Other herbs and oils are also nice.

Your products don't have to be fancy. You want healthy hair that grows from a properly stimulated scalp for good blood circulation. Speaking of health, it really comes from the inside out.

Take multivitamins unless your diet is most wholesome and provides all the nutrients you need. Unfortunately, few of us eat that way so we need vitamins.

Avoid drinking a lot of alcohol. It inhibits blood circulation, and you need that for a healthy head of hair. While it's nice to be slim, diet judiciously.

When you lose a lot of weight really fast, you probably aren't getting the nutrients you need. Your hair suffers along with the rest of you.

What is the use of losing weight so you look nice and having your hair be brittle and dull? Follow a sensible eating plan and exercise so that your whole system benefits. You can almost always do something to help your hair look its best.

Take care of it with a healthy lifestyle and an easy hairstyle. You very well may have a head full of shiny hair even into your elder years.
